How the Campaign Works:
- Inquire: We offer presentations to groups
about the 350 Campaign. E-mail scheduler@pvclimate.org or call Katie at (413)
467-1566.
- Consider Joining: Check out what we do
and consider becoming a member.
Note: Membership of an organization or part or an organization (e.g. Climate
Change Committee of **** Church, Amherst, MA) brings more people into the
process and has a bigger impact. If someone has no affiliation and wants to
join we will unite them with others in the same geographic area to create
a new climate-action group.
- Join -- Contact our Scheduler: Sign up
for a week of focused action. E-mail scheduler@pvclimate.org or call Katie
at (413) 467-1566.
Options:
Listed in order of probable impact -- all are useful -- what works for you?
- Travel to Washington DC and meet directly with legislator
and aide (most effective but more difficult/costly).
- Coordinate a conference call from the regional office connecting to
their Washington office (D.C. manages political issues; regional office
focuses on constituent service).
- Schedule meetings in the regional office when the official is back in
Massachusetts.
- Talk with the staff person in Washington in charge of the Climate Change
Issue.
- Sign up for a week where your group can write letters in support of
someone who went to D.C.
Note: We do not organize e-mail petitions. We are mobilizing localized,
direct and, we believe, more effective citizen contact with your legislators.
Media -- Letters to the Editor:
- increase visibility and awareness
- educate our neighbors about the issues
- reinforce visits to the member of congress
- stimulate constituent interest/action
The media advisor at Climate 350 Campaign will offer ideas
and support.
- Be informed before your meeting or contact with the member
of Congress. We offer background notes, specific issues, questions to ask
and information to note (studies, articles, etc.) that address known stumbling
blocks.
- Get Debriefed: The Campaign will de-brief after contacts
with the members of congress to note a legislator’s specific questions
or issues the official has expressed about supporting legislation to bring
atmospheric carbon dioxide to 350ppm in a timely way.
- Persevere: With your help we continue this weekly dialogue
through many different groups building momentum until the official agrees
to actively support appropriate legislation.
- Spread the Word: invite any groups you are involved with
to join the campaign. Our goal is to have 52 groups by year end. One for each
week! Contact us for any assistance you may need.
